Professor Johan Swinnen's Lecture at Pathshala

Dear All,
Professor Johan Swinnen from Belgium is going to give several lectures within the third year course "Photography and Photographers" from 3rd December to 7th December. The lecture will start at 5:30pm everyday and will end before 9:00pm depending on length of discussion. The topics of the lectures will be:

The PAL-Method (The Photo-Anthology-Learning Method). Methods for Learning about Identity and Diversity in the Majority World resulting in a Photographic Anthology, * documentary photography, * manipulating photography (The Photoshopgeneration), * Overview of forms of analyses of images (Lemagny, Barrett, Müller-Pohle, Dubois), * history of photo-philosophy (from Benjamin till Baudrillard), * Magnum Photos, * Theory of Photography * and... some smaller surprise-presenatations...

course distribution for Advanced Diploma and Graduation

Dear Students,

As per the decision taken in the Monthly meeting of Pathshala held on the 2nd August 2008, the Principal has finalized (accommodating all the proposals from every related part) the Syllabus and course distribution of Pathshala (Term wise or Year wise). According to the Plan, students enrolling for Advanced Diploma (2008-2009) and Graduation (2008-2009) will continue year based system and both the batches will have to complete six courses excluding Guest Lectures, Workshop, Exhibition and Publication. One course will be common for Advanced Diploma and Graduation.

Now we are requesting you all to see the course distribution and get admitted within this week.

Dear Students,

Hope you are all aware about the present situation of Pathshala and ULAB
collaboration. We inform you that Pathshala@ULAB collaboration chapter is
closed and all classes under this programme are cancelled with effect from
17th of July 2008. We are extremely sorry for all the trouble that you
went through because of this initiative during last several months.

We inform you that Pathshala will keep running its all previous programmes
in its campus at Panthapath. The new academic year 2008-2009 will start
from the 3rd of August 2008. The admission formalities to be completed
during the office hour from July 23-29, 2008.

The total tuition fee for 2nd and 3rd year students is Taka thirty-two
thousand (Tk.32, 000/=) only. You will have to pay one-third percent of
the total amount i.e. Tk.10, 667/= at the time of admission. The requests
for late payments will not be considered.

Students those who want to continue their 2nd and 3rd year with Pathshala
are requested to complete their admission formalities within the 29th of
July 2008. No late submission of application will be accepted.

formed an institute Pathshala@ULAB: South Asian Institute of Photography
and finally got the approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC)
of Bangladesh.
It is also to be informed that Pathshala@ ULAB is going to offer
Bachelor in Social Sciences in Photography and Photojournalism. All
existing students of Pathshala will be accommodated (conditional to UGC
criteria). Therefore, students who sat for final examination 2008
(Diploma, Ad. Diploma & Graduation) are requested to complete their
registration formalities as soon as possible. Classes of next semester
will start from the 15^th of June 2008.

A briefing session has been arranged for you on the 8^th of June 2008 at

Roland is currently working with the Regional CII – (Consumer Imaging & Information Division), Pro Business Development Department, Canon Singapore Pte Ltd. He is responsible for the development of professional DSLR camera business in South and Southeast Asia region. He has extensive experience in conducting training, seminars and workshops for Professional photographers and sales companies’ personnel. He is always present at major sponsorships and events when Canon provides support for Professional photographers. He was recently seen supporting the photographers in the SEA games held in Thailand.

Extensive Technical Background: In 1986, Roland joined Canon Marketing Services as a supervisor in Camera/Video after-sales-service department. He was soon promoted to a Manager to oversee the Camera/Video servicing department, supported by a group of engineers and technicians. In 1996, he was transferred to the Regional Camera/Video as service manager, taking care of 17 countries’ after-sales-service and operations. He had conducted numerous technical trainings as well as setting up after-sales-service workshops in this region.

During his 22 years of in Canon Singapore Pte. Ltd., Roland has received numerous trainings in Canon Inc., Tokyo. He has conducted many trainings, seminars and workshops, as well as working closely with press and professional photographers in the region covering Singapore, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal and Brunei. Roland’s extensive technical experience is invaluable support to the DSLR marketing group in Canon Singapore to achieve the No. 1 share and position in South & South East Asia region.

Dear Tutors and Students,

Hope you are all aware about the updates of Pathshala and ULAB process. We are still waiting for UGC’s approval and the agreement which to be signed by the top management of Pathshala and ULAB. We are expecting to start working with ULAB from this summer semester provided the green signal is received from the relevant authorities.

Considering the present improvement of Pathshala and ULAB process, we have brought some changes in the current academic schedule. The final examination for all our academic programmes (both day and evening session) will be held as per the following schedule:-
1. All regular classes will be continued up to the 10th of May 2008.

2. Every student will have to submit his/her class records, class assignments/practical
assignments (final) and portfolios/presentations assigned by your tutors by May
16, 2008 before 5.00pm. Any submission after this deadline may not be accepted.

3. Written examinations will be held from May 20 – 30, 2008. The written examination
schedule will be published on due time.

# 4. It is to be noted that your final grade will be based on your overall performance
throughout the academic year. Overall marks will be distributed as follows:
(a) Attendance and active participation (10 + 15) : 25%
(b) Class Assignments and Record keeping (20 + 10) : 30%
(c) Practical Assignments (Final) and portfolio/presentation : 20%
(d) Written Examination : 25%
(e) Viva V : 50
(f) Group Exhibition : 25
(g) Publication : 25

Your attendance and participation in the guest lectures will contribute to your GPA and
final grade. More details are given in the Examination Guidelines which was given
to you in the beginning of the academic session.

American filmmaker Adam Lipsius will give a talk at Campus BRoom 303 on Monday, March 31, at 4:30. The talk will be followedby a Q & A. You are all invited to attend. Please inform anyinterested students of this event.He will also be filming on the ULAB Campus on Tuesday, April 1.Adam LipsiusAdam is an award-winning independent filmmaker and former new businesscoordinator at Saatchi and Saatchi. He attended Dartmouth College and theUniversity of Southern California's Graduate School of Cinema-Television,where three of his short films played at festivals around the world. Hebegan in post-production, working under directors Martin Scorsese, BarrySonnenfeld, Ang Lee, and others; and he taught Media Production at LongIsland University before directing commercials for Bratz, Little Tikes,OxiClean, and Kaboom.Adam will be speaking on his work in both the independent and Hollywoodfilmmaking industries, as well as his experience with international filmfestivals. He will show some clips from films and discuss aspects of thefilmmaking process.
